Brian, great post as always! Question: Do you consider authority sites (industry portals) a form of “influencer marketing?” e.g. guest blogging, etc? In some niches there are not so many individuals who are influencers (outside of journalists) but there are sites that those in the industry respect. I am in the digital video space and for me one site is actually a magazine that is building a very strong digital presence. Thanks, keep up the good work!
Twitter is a great platform for having genuine conversations with people in your space, but not a perfect fit for all types of bloggers to learn how to drive traffic to their websites. It’s best-suited if your blog covers somewhat technology-related topics. Regardless, Twitter shouldn’t be ignored though, as it’s a great way to start building up an audience that’ll participate in conversations—though it’s more community-building and a little less traffic-driving for most bloggers.

The ubiquitous share buttons you see along the side of blog posts, many of them come from SumoMe. The any-website buttons (you don’t have to run a WordPress blog to use them) are part of the SumoMe suite of website products. If you’re okay with some SumoMe branding, you can add the buttons for free to any page and customize the networks that appear by default.
Think of it this way: The more specific your content, the more specific the needs of your audience are -- and the more likely you'll convert this traffic into leads. This is how Google finds value in the websites it crawls; the pages that dig into the interworkings of a general topic are seen as the best answer to a person's query, and will rank higher.
How we use Google Analytics: As a social media marketing team, we appreciate the ease with which we can see traffic from the different networks (Acquisition > Social > Network Referrals). We can check the engaged reading time by looking at Time on Page. And for the real-time stats of who’s on our site right now, we can simply click on Real-Time > Overview.
This one is more difficult to pull off if you’re still brand new to blogging—you’ll need to have a meaningful amount of traffic first, if you want to get sizable brands or bloggers in your space to promote your content to their audience (and thus drive traffic to your website). That being said, you should always be on the lookout for other bloggers or brands who are just a slight bit ahead of you—that you want to collaborate with, and brainstorm on how you can add value to their business first.
Historical refreshes of content is a good thing, especially if some of your content has expired. Note, this does not mean re-doing your content; simply refreshing it to bring it current if it isn't already evergreen content. Look at ways you can update outdated content on your site to drive more traffic through visibility on search engines like Google.

I feel I have great content…but most of it is within my email marketing campaign instead of my blogs. I’ve used my blogs to include links to my email marketing campaigns to lead to my product. You go on for 20 minutes, get access to a new audience and great natural links on high dwell time sites (hosts do all the work!).
